Insurance
Many insurers include coverage for acupuncture at this point. We are in-network with Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, Hopkins EHP, and United. And we offer Veterans FREE acupuncture (full coverage with no co-pay) through the Veterans Choice Program. Please note:
Unsure about your benefits?

Insurance FAQ
Using the phone number on the back of your insurance card, call your insurance company to find out how much acupuncture will cost for you. If you need assistance, send us an email at insurance@mendacupuncture.com.
If you would like to use insurance to cover the cost of treatment, please make sure to send us your insurance details in enough time to find out – two business days is usually plenty of time.
Mend contacts your insurance carrier directly either by phone or through the carrier website. In order for us to access patient information, we’ve registered as a provider with your insurance carrier and verify your benefits using the information we get from you.
Deductible | Amount that you have to pay out of pocket before your insurance will start to pay anything toward your acupuncture. If you are paying off a deductible, you would expect to pay Mend at the time of each visit until the deductible has been paid off entirely. |
Copay | Flat fee amount that is due from you to Mend at the time of each visit. |
Co-insurance | A percent of the amount the insurance carrier agrees to pay to Mend for each visit. In many cases, we are able to translate that coinsurance amount to a dollar amount so you know what to pay at each visit. |
Visit Limits | Either a set number of visits or a dollar amount your insurance carrier agrees to pay for acupuncture in a plan year. This includes all acupuncture visits, including ones that you had with other providers. This also includes all visits that applied to your deductible. |
Plan Year | date your insurance plan begins, and is usually January 1. Any deductible, visit limits, out of pocket maximums will start over on this date. Also, if your insurance carrier is going to make any changes to the terms of your insurance, it will happen at this time. |
Out of Pocket Maximum | The maximum amount you will have to pay out of pocket in a plan year for all medical services your insurance covers. If you pay that amount, then any copays or coinsurance amounts are no longer due from you until the next plan year begins. |
In most cases, yes. Mend submits a claim to your insurance carrier after your visit, and then the insurance carrier processes the claim. After the claim is processed, the insurance carrier sends you and Mend an Explanation of Benefits, which breaks down the cost of the visit.
Sometimes the information we receive from your insurance carrier does not match what happens when they process the claim. In cases where the correct amount due to Mend was not paid by you at the time of the visit, Mend will send you a statement letting you know what you owe. If you paid more than you were supposed to, then Mend will refund the overpayment via whatever payment method you used.
Usually, unexpected charges are the result of a deductible being applied, or because our records show that the copay wasn’t collected at the time of the visit. Sometimes it happens that the insurance carrier changes the terms of coverage, and as a result, your copay might go up or a deductible might be applied that you didn’t have when we first checked the details of your acupuncture coverage. Occasionally, patients with insurance that is not local will have trouble getting their insurance to pay for their visits to Mend, even when the plan covers acupuncture.
The insurance process is somewhat automated, but there is also room for human error on the part of the insurance carrier or on the part of Mend, so please contact us if something seems off.
If you get a bill from Mend and you can’t pay it right away, we are happy to set up a payment plan that works with your budget. Give us a call or email us at insurance@mendacupuncture.com.
If you’re looking for the claim information for your acupuncture visits, you should check under our legal name, Seeds Center for Whole Health.
You probably have a different plan than they do. The plan determines the details of your acupuncture coverage, and each insurance carrier offers many different plans.
Depending on your insurance, the issue may be that you don’t have coverage for acupuncture at all. Mend is in network with most major insurance carriers, but not all plans cover acupuncture.
No. At this time we do not accept insurance for massage, cannabis certification or naturopathy.
